Anonymous 1080p MKV freezes all video playback on WDTV device 2 May 24 2009, 11:11 AM EDT by Anonymous

Thread started: Mar 26 2009, 8:19 PM EDT  Watch
I am having trouble with some 1080p MKV files which upon opening the file, it displays a blank screen and will not play the video. The system is not totally frozen however as I can press back and navigate through the interface fine however if I try to play any other video file it will have the same symptoms, even video files which have worked previously. The only resolution is to completely power-cycle the WDTV device. 720p MKV files do not seem to cause this problem. I suspect a problem with either the encoding of the 1080p mkv content im trying to play or an issue with the signal the WDTV is trying to output through HDMI (i am using a 720p/1080i TV, it cannot handle 1080p natively).
When this issue occurs, it is only video playback which is affected until a power-cycle of the WDTV. Playback of music and photos still functions fine. Is anyone else having this issue?
