my book essential 500GB not working with WDTV

hi guys, i have WD My Book Essential 500GB 400GB of videos, music and clips on it. when i plug it in WDTV...i displays error and the USB device not recognized...
could somebody please help me solve my issues... any suggestions.. feel free... thanks

I get that too with my external drive. It usually tells me there is no storage present while it's reading the drive but I see the USB symbol on the unit blinking.
If the unit is blinking, give it a bit of time to recognize all the files.
Also, I had one instance where my external drive had non-media files on it and that took forever to read. As soon as I took those off and made it a dedicated media drive I was good to go.

I had issues with my 500gb - I could start videos but they would die 25-30 into watching them. Also the light always blinked. I finally disabled the Automatic Media Library feature and it's worked fine since (no blinking!)
